Obama and McCain Tax Proposals - washingtonpost.com

Obama and McCain Tax Proposals - washingtonpost.com:

"According to a new analysis by the Tax Policy Center, a joint project of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution, Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain are both proposing tax plans that would result in cuts for most American families. Obama's plan gives the biggest cuts to those who make the least, while McCain would give the largest cuts to the very wealthy. For the approximately 147,000 families that make up the top 0.1 percent of the income scale, the difference between the two plans is stark. While McCain offers a $269,364 tax cut, Obama would raise their taxes, on average, by $701,885 - a difference of nearly $1 million."

I wonder how the hourly laborers making gulfstream jets feel...

Fewer ultra-rich buying jets might not bode well for them.

Property taxes:

The rich still hate them. But they make some sense. The more valuable your property, the more you have something you need the state to protect. That seems to do a good job of attaching value to the national security the US Government provides as a service to citizens. The value is proportional to how large an ass you have to save.

I would like to see all income taxes cut...and the tax on natural resources increased. But raising gas taxes is political suicide right now. Much easier to blame the successful for getting rich.

Unfortunately, in democracy, the loudest, not the smartest voice, wins. Playing in that game, none of the candidates get it right.

I'll just refer you to a prior post, you'll figure out why.

I don't think anyone blames the successful for getting rich, but, as TR said, "The man of great wealth owes a peculiar obligation to the State, because he derives special advantages from the mere existence of government"

Cheers,
